Dear members, friends and supporters, We have good news: we were able to provide care for all the children in 2023 and finance their continued school education! This is mainly due to the fact that our donors did everything they could to continue supporting our work and also continued to spread the word about our work. In this way, we were not only able to cover all school and training costs, but also address the emergency situation in our Canaan orphanage and cushion the period of extreme food price increases - at least in the long term - with a food donation. We are very grateful for this! However, the next challenges were not long in coming: the water supply remains a burning issue, and we will fortunately be able to switch the power supply to an orphanage and a school to solar power in 2024. We are also reaching the limits of the Canaan orphanage's capacities, as the children have grown older and need more space. An extension is urgently needed to accommodate the staff and to avoid having to turn away children in need. Our major goal is to make the orphanages, schools and youth facilities we have created less dependent on donations. Although we will continue to need a significant amount of school and education funding in the future, at least the operation of the facilities should be self-financing in the long term. Our Living Water orphanage, which is partly financed by the income from the schools and the orphanage farms, shows that this can be achieved. But some challenges remain: the particularly heavy El Nino rain has destroyed part of the harvest on the orphanage farms, food prices for 1,000 pupils remain high, as do diesel prices for the school bus fleet, and government regulations are making life difficult. The income that is supposed to help finance the running costs of the orphanage is not sufficient. We need to take countermeasures here! In order to make the facilities we have created more crisis-proof for the future, it is important to us to further expand our Partnership for Africa Foundation so that, in addition to the donations received, income can flow in via an adequate capital stock for long-term financing. Conclusion: Together with our founding members, we are optimistic that we can create long-term prospects for young people in Tanzania. A stronger society is also more resistant to adverse influences. We want to continue to produce good news, enjoy the success of the young people who have completed their education and stay focused so that there are more and more! Current developments 2023/24 Outreach & immediate help In all our facilities and programs, the first priority is to help children in need. To do this, our partners visit children and families at home to assess the situation. During our project trips, we also visit these families and get an idea of the situation on the ground. The first decision to be made is whether a child can stay with the family or with relatives and whether help can be organized there. However, if there is acute danger due to violence, abuse, neglect or hunger, then placement in one of our orphanages is the best option. We are aware that we are deciding the fate of a child's life. Will he/she get a chance - or not? Children who have to live with HIV or a disability often have no chance at all. It's a matter of survival. Time and again, our programs receive requests to take in more children in need. Our Living Water Center still had capacity this year, and we are expanding our Canaan orphanage for this purpose! Stephano has made it: from neglect to a secure future in our Living Water orphanage! We are often asked how we find our children. There are various ways: firstly, our orphanages work together with the local governments, which submit applications for children in need. Then there are the well- connected church communities that report cases of extreme poverty or neglect. And then there are the social workers that we fund, for example to identify children with disabilities among people living in rural or nomadic areas. If the child's life is in acute danger, it can be taken into care immediately with the approval of the authorities. Otherwise, there is a relatively complex official examination procedure, which makes sense, as no child should be unnecessarily torn away from the family. Unfortunately, there is also a lot of fraud involving orphans. In the first step, we identify cases of particular hardship and look for solutions for children in need. • Our project partners here are our Living Water orphanage, our Canaan orphanage for HIV-positive children and our TRMEGA program for children in need from the slums. We also cooperate with the church rehabilitation center for disabled children in Monduli. • We used this year's donations to support these outreach activities: primarily for transportation, first aid supplies and immediate treatment for disabled children, initial accommodation for children in emergency situations. • Future: donations are still needed for these outreach activities. 4 

Care and support Often children in need still have a relative somewhere - a grandmother, aunt, uncle or adult sibling. If we can help these relatives care for the children, it is often the best option. Provided, of course, that the place of residence is safe from neglect or abuse. Every child and every family has very individual problems that need to be solved somehow. For Margreth and Helena, we were a lifesaver: their elderly aunt was the only surviving family member who could no longer afford the school fees. The three of them were living in a single room and the two pupils were desperate. The good news that we have found a godmother for them makes them smile. School is everything! Our social workers visit these families regularly to check on them and establish whether and what is lacking: are there enough beds, is the sleeping space safe and dry, is there enough to eat and are relatives able to take care of the children? They offer assistance with schooling and training and, if necessary, provide the families with food while the children are at school or in training. These years are then used to stabilize the mothers, who are sometimes still present (usually ill), so that they can take on a small job. But more on this later under step 7. This time, too, we visited "our" children in their remaining families and got an idea of the situation. We then discuss this in detail with our project partners and consider the next steps together. The continuation of the maternal or family relationship is extremely important for the children, which is why we always organize family visits for the children living in the orphanage during the vacations - wherever possible. We also check after a while whether the situation has improved and whether an orphanage child can be reintegrated back into the family. In the third step, we help orphans and young people to continue living in their remaining families if there is no immediate danger. We finance schooling, living expenses and medical care. • Our project partner here is the TRMEGA program for vulnerable children from the slums of the city of Arusha and the surrounding area. • Once again this year, we used donations for school fees, school uniforms, books, bus fare and boarding school fees. We provided the impoverished mothers with the basic necessities for a dignified home and life and enabled them to earn their own income. • Future: In the coming years, donations will continue to be needed every year for this large and important part of our work in order to enable the children to attend school. Our motto: "No child should have to leave school!" 6 

At our second orphanage - the "Living Water Children Center" - the focus this year was on improving the water supply and further expanding the orphanage farms. These measures are an important contribution to the long-term supply of the center with clean drinking water, healthy food and the creation of income to provide for the orphans and run the center. Another contribution to the sustainability of the Living Water Children Center is the stable supply of drinking water. The new tank with osmosis filter makes it possible to become less dependent on the sparse state supply, at least during the rainy seasons. The orphanage farms were further developed to create a secure source of healthy food and income for the operation of the orphanages: Drip irrigation, barn construction and improvements, greenhouses. Keyword long-term: The operation of our Living Water orphanage is already largely independent of donations - here we only help with larger investments and emergency measures that cannot be covered by the income from the farms and schools. The Canaan Center does not (yet) have such income opportunities. It is therefore our aim to expand the Partnership for Africa Foundation so that one day part of the operating costs can be covered by the income from the Foundation. To achieve this, we still need committed donors who care about this project! 8 

The construction and expansion of the Yakini Secondary School, which was almost entirely financed by us and our sponsors, has been completed. Investments are still necessary - such as the water and electricity supply - as these cannot be financed from current income. The new solar system was installed at the beginning of 2024. The next challenge is already looming, as the heavy El Nino rains have washed away parts of the school ground and the water tanks are now at risk. We need good engineers and resources to stop this loss of land as soon as possible! Here, too, there are pupils who help to finance the running of the school and the Living Water orphanage and thus help to provide the orphans with a high-quality school. This year, we were once again able to donate numerous books for the library which we brought in as in-kind donations or procured locally. The next important project we are focusing on is improving the water supply. In our Yakini Secondary School, a milk bar, a recreation room, a counselling room have been created. The school is also one of the best in the region, but here too the water problem is a major headache for everyone. During our visits, we also meet the pupils from our education program and can see for ourselves that the bread from our youth workshops is served in the school canteen. 10 

A handful of our young people are so good that we take them on as "excellence promoters". This can be a particular specialization, but it can also be a non-university career. Elizabeth Mushi, for example, is well on the way to becoming a doctor. Peter Kimaro will complete his Bachelor's degree in IT Technology next year, Joan James is studying Forensic Science and dreams of a career in law, Salomé Joseph is studying Meteorology. Nancy Stanlaus is studying Business Administration and is already working for a telecommunications provider during the vacations. These are just a few examples, the list of successful graduates has now grown to over 100, the vast majority of whom have been able to take up employment or self-employment. Help for self-help - Job Training Center In the meantime, we have been able to improve the living environment of the mothers of our protégés over time so that they can manage on their own. Financing school fees for the children alone is not enough when a sick and impoverished mother has to be cared for at home or the house is threatening to collapse. It is important to us to support the mothers by helping them help themselves and not to make them dependent on our donations for the rest of their lives. In our seminars and self-help groups, the mothers of our protégés learn how to get themselves back on track after overcoming the emergency (left). By helping to improve the living environment, the children can live in a good and safe home (center), and in the case of orphaned children's families, the use of a foster carer also helps (right). We also teach children who have no mothers or caretakers the skills they lack at home in groups or seminars. How do I behave towards others? How do I assert myself? Where do I want to go and what do I have to do to get there? And the mothers who are still around also learn important skills in our seminars. The vast majority of existing mothers were able to become independent through seminars and targeted start-up support. We are planning to evaluate these measures in 2024: are the women really coping on their own? Have our measures achieved the desired goal? We also regularly visit some of our small start-ups and check whether the young people are coping in this way, even if there is no permanent employment. Thanks to previous internships and a network of our mentors, they also receive the right support to ensure that the 12 

Safehouse & youth workshops Our youth workshops at the Safehouse in Ngulelo (Arusha), which started operating last year, have now proven to be an indispensable facility. After school, training, college or university, the foundation has been laid, but sometimes the "last mile" to a job is the most difficult. Our aim is not to release young people from the programs until they can really stand on their own two feet. However, until they really achieve independence, young people are still at risk of drifting off in a bad direction. In our two safe houses for young orphans and the associated youth workshops, our young people can spend the time between training and employment or self-employment. Another focus is on promoting practical knowledge to our students in higher grades. It is a rarity in Tanzania to come into contact with craftsmanship at all during school. Academic training is considered desirable, but conversely only a few find a "white collar" job, i.e. in an office or administration. In the end, the chances lie more in self-employment, for which we prepare young people at an early stage. The young people learn very practical skills in our youth workshops: from baking bread and tailoring to making yogurt and butter from the products of the orphanage farm. In the newly established sales store, the young people practise "thinking" as salespeople: pricing, calculating margins, satisfying customers, finding market-driven prices. 14 

Public relations Social media has now become an important focus of our public relations work. Not because the reach of Instagram, Facebook, YouTube or WhatsApp is so great in terms of numbers, but rather because we can keep our friends and supporters very closely and visually informed there. However, our presence in the "real public", i.e. at flea markets or Christmas markets, also attracts a lot of attention and, last but not least, our efforts to gain local press coverage once again borne fruit this year. Our loyal supporters and fellow travellers not only missed no opportunity to find further sponsors and tell them about our work, but were also creative in initiating campaigns. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the supporters and our volunteers who helped us with information stands, raffles and flea markets, with campaigns on social networks and Betterplace.org and with graphic design. Note: All public relation work, such as mailings, flyers, calendars, photo books, homepages etc. are NOT financed from donations, but are privately sponsored. • The crowdfunding platform Betterplace.org also helps us publicize our work: This allows us to reach our friends' friends through a low-threshold offer to donate at the click of a mouse. However, because of the fees involved, we ultimately prefer donations to our donation account. • The press and television are always important multipliers. We have succeeded in placing articles in Online-Reiterrevue, in "Reiten und Zucht Berlin" and in the Rheinische Post, the Westdeutsche Zeitung as well as in the company newsletter of Ergo Versicherung. • Arusha reports: The reports sent by e-mail from Africa offer the opportunity to address individual donors and inform them about the use of the donations. Many photos illustrate the project work in an entertaining way. • Calendar: this year we have once again captured the most beautiful motifs from Africa in a self- made and privately financed photo calendar. • Mailings: The thank-you letters and personal Christmas letters are particularly important to us. This makes Partnership for Africa fundamentally different from "direct mailings", which collects anonymously in letterboxes, especially during the Christmas period. The feedback and donations we receive confirm that this is one of the most appreciated campaigns. 16 

Ambassador horse Famoso, together with his owner Flora Keller (center) and his rider Benjamin Werndl, once again provided substantial support for various projects last year through the prize money raised at international level (e.g. Canaan orphanage, safehouses, orphanage farm). Uta Gräf (right) continues to make an enormous contribution to motivating further donors as an ambassador for "Riders for Africa" thanks to her high profile as an internationally successful dressage rider. Whether it was a trade fair information stand, flea market, lecture, Christmas market, reading bone campaign, equestrian festival or painting campaign on site in Africa: the energy and creative ideas of our sponsors and volunteers generated sales and helped to raise our profile. 18 Press articles in the daily press and equestrian journals helped make our work even better known. 

Finances 2023 Donation accounts In the reporting year, donations were received in the form of money and donations in kind. Since April 1, 2011, the association's account has been held at Postbank and all transactions are processed via this bank. Donations in kind are listed separately, as the donors have opted not to receive a donation receipt. The donations received are allocated to the intended donation purposes and used accordingly. The cash donations received were forwarded to the respective partner organizations promptly after receipt or applied in accordance with the agreed payment plan. In the case of donations that were not earmarked for a specific purpose, the intended use of the funds was agreed with the respective partner organization. Receipt of the donation was confirmed by the head of the organization in each case. In addition, confirmation was obtained from the project manager if the funds were transferred to the projects within the organization. In 2021, the Board of Directors and management voluntarily commissioned the Krefeld law firm RSM to carry out an audit. The next audit is scheduled for 2024. The audit covered the annual financial statements for the previous year as well as the position and management of the document files. The result of the audit was documented as "no objections". The previous audits in 2014 and 2018 were just as successful. Expenses for association management and ancillary costs The reported expenses for managing the association are made up of hourly rates, travel expenses and other ancillary costs. The withdrawals are made by the Executive Board and a sponsor so that the costs incurred are not charged to third-party donations or the projects. This approach ensures that the burden of administrative expenses on other donors is de facto zero. If the expenses and ancillary costs were nevertheless set in relation to the donations received, the percentage share would be less than 3 percent and thus a fraction of the usual "administrative expenses" for comparable institutions. Volunteer work also makes an important contribution to minimizing expenses. Thanks to the commitment of dedicated friends of our work, we have been able to save considerable costs, which can now be used to provide assistance. In addition, technical equipment (PC, monitor, photocopier, camera, etc.) is purchased from private funds and made available to the association for use. The transportation costs for donations in kind and all travel expenses are also borne privately. Donations in kind Donations in kind are mostly clothing donations for children, young people and adults, toys, learning materials, books, shoes and backpacks. We also receive gifts from our fellow guests and sponsors for the children as well as donations in kind for raffles and flea market or reading bone campaigns. This year, we also received a special donation in kind from a large Construction store for the Hai Training Center (drills etc.). The trainers and pupils at the Hai-Center were particularly pleased with the donation in kind from a large construction chain in Germany. The same company donated a large number of rain jackets for our children again this year. This year, we were able to hand over gifts from our sponsoring parents for their children, or the sponsors did this themselves during their visits. We also received generous donations in kind for our raffles, flea markets and Christmas markets. Various donations in kind were also donated for auction - from a pony as part of the Thüringeti to Vetmedicum saddle pads and a bottle of very old whiskey. All of this has contributed greatly to the success of our work! Volunteering Our volunteers have also worked hard this sem year: Julia Eger not only continued to get involved in the sponsorship programme but also actively organized and helped run the flee markets. Together with Paula Flümann, she is planning a multi- week assignment in 2024 for the project work on site. Gabi Lange and Sabine Sprankmanns did not let the sewing machines stand still to sew reading bones and other beautiful things from African fabric for the flee markets. A whole family provided active help on site and the five of them repainted several rooms of our Living Water orphanage. Back at home, a collection was then made to stock up the library. 24 

Partnership for Africa - The Association The "Partnership for Africa" association has continued to develop over the past year. New sponsors were acquired and new ways of collecting donations were opened up thanks to the cooperation of volunteers. Since fundraising to promote development projects in Africa began in 2005 on the initiative of Friederike Heidenhof, 4.6 million euros have been invested in sustainable infrastructure and education projects. "I was and still am convinced of the good work being done on the ground by our Tanzanian partners." "Partnership for Africa" has been a non-profit, registered association since 2011. Goals and background The core problem: the HIV/AIDS epidemic has affected almost an entire generation of parents in Tanzania and left behind many orphans for whom the state is unable to provide. The threat of neglect of such children and young people is also a serious factor in the destabilization of a society. Such children are particularly susceptible to crime and prostitution, radicalization or flight. Our core objective is to help build the next generation as the pillars of a new, stronger society through education and helping people help themselves. We combat the causes of flight and radicalization - two of the most pressing problems of our time. Why Tanzania? Tanzania is a relatively stable country in the East African region. It is important for peace in the region that Tanzania (and also Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda) remain stable. This is because the region is affected by various destabilizing influences in neighbouring countries: civil war-like areas in Congo, terrorist militias in Somalia, refugees from Burundi and Congo in camps on the borders. Why education? Children and young people are the future of the country. At the same time, they have the hardest time if society is unable to provide them with a good education and training. In many African countries, children in particular are affected by the vicious circle of poverty, illness and lack of prospects. What does the State do? Even a relatively well-functioning state within an elected democracy such as Tanzania is not (yet) able to create a social safety net for the hardships of the population. International organizations (World Bank, EU, African Development Bank, etc.), which have the capacity to manage large infrastructure projects, administrative reforms or anti-corruption programmes at government level, are currently filling gaps in various areas of the country's development. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), especially smaller ones, are often more likely to make a contribution at grassroots level, i.e. at the level of the population. A drop in the ocean? "Partnership for Africa" is one of the smaller NGOs, but it can work very effectively because the costs are covered privately and decision-making processes are short. One thing is clear: "Partnership for Africa" cannot save the world. But together we can contribute to stabilizing the country, and we can provide humanitarian aid and alleviate the greatest need for a good number of people. Others besides us are doing this - each with a different focus - and so in the end a considerable difference is made for the people. 26

Following a prepared agenda, we discuss all relevant issues and receive the receipts for the funds spent. A large part of the meetings is spent on strategic planning for the coming months (e.g. new projects, supplementary programs) and years, as well as discussing the individual "cases" of children and young people or their mothers. In addition, we visit the project locations several times and take a look at new developments. From this and in discussions with the teams, further requirements for the future emerge. Back at home, we start again with fundraising, project applications, etc. Ensuring sustainability - how you can help! The infrastructure of schools, orphanages and other facilities created by Partnership for Africa to date is already financed to a large extent by our own income - we have paid attention to this from the outset, because we want everything to be able to continue operating one day, even independently of our donations. In the case of the schools, this is achieved through the paying pupils, who cross-finance the operation of the schools and the associated orphanage. Farms and youth workshops also help to cover costs. Other facilities, such as the orphanage for HIV-positive children, the center for disabled children and the education program, are still dependent on donations. We want to change this in the next 5 to 10 years! That is why we have started to set up a foundation whose income will one day be sufficient to support precisely these institutions. We are therefore calling on all those who can to consider donating part of their assets or an inheritance to our foundation. Some of our long-standing supporters and founding members have already done so. In doing so, they are helping to ensure that the idea of perpetuity can take root and that the available funds will help children in need for all time and give them a chance of education and training. Partnership for Africa - The Foundation In order to put our work for children in need on a sustainable footing, we established a foundation in 2020, the proceeds of which can be used to finance some of the tasks in the long term. This is in our proven hands and pursues the same goals as the association. In 2023, we were also pleased to receive additional donations that help generate income for our project work. Co-founders who, like us and our members, are interested and happy to make a capital contribution as an endowment are very welcome. We are aiming for a total of 3 million euros in the long term. At the same time, we are still dependent on donations to the "Partnerschaft für Afrika e.V." association; endowments should not replace this commitment, but rather supplement it. Background Over the past 18 years, we have acquired more than EUR 4.6 million in donations, creating a sustainable infrastructure and the corresponding programs. As this annual report also shows in some places, some programs are dependent on the continued flow of donations in order to be continued at the same level. It therefore makes sense to create a sustainable source of income with the help of a foundation (see also box on p. 29) We want as many children as possible who come from emergency situations to be able to go through these programs "for all eternity". Through the continued acquisition of donations - as before - and through sustainable income from growing foundation assets. Advantages for practical work Our partners in Africa and we would like to expand and consolidate what we have created and keep it in good condition in the long term instead of continuing to grow. In the event that the people who have been acquiring donations up to now are no longer available, the foundation offers a sustainable source of funding as a basic income. Advantages for the founders Creation of a meaningful purpose for existing capital, participation in the foundation's board of trustees. Full tax deductibility over several years (a capital entry can be "carried forward" to subsequent years and thus gradually deducted). Tax advantages in the case of inheritances, e.g. by falling below the tax-free threshold by deducting an amount as a foundation contribution. How do I become a founder? Founders contribute a sum of their choice to the existing foundation assets, thereby increasing the interest income of the Partnership for Africa Foundation. Contributions can be made at any time and in any amount. As with every donation, donors receive a confirmation (donation receipt) for the amount donated. 30
